String Instrument Repair
Mandolin, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
I've been repairing instruments since the mid 1970s and appreciate the solutions that come with time and experience. Repair is more than just fixing it, it's making an instrument the best it can be.
I recently did a modification to a Gibson F-5 mandolin, lopped off the end of the fingerboard so the sweet spot on the top would be exposed, ala Sam Bush style, did some refinish work where the finish was worn away from play and finished with a fret dressing and setup. Here is what Bo had to say ...
Hi Kyle,
I received my mando and played it today, it looks and sounds great, you are truly a fantastic luthier,
in fact, I have adopted you as my own. The F-5 has never sounded better! I'm lovin` it!!!
peace,
Bo
While I haven't taken many repair pictures along the way, too busy repairing
instruments, here's a couple of shots.
I removed the top of this bass to reattach the loose back braces.

The braces in this old Gibson acoustic guitar had fallen out.

If I can help make your instrument better please contact me.
